To coincide with this year’s Piano Day, Nils announces a new worldwide tour starting this summer.

Returning to the live stage for the first time since 2019, Nils will appear at the Sydney Opera House in June for the world premiere performance of his forthcoming global tour named Music For. From September, he will be back touring all over Europe, presenting brand-new music moving between the worlds of experimental, ambient, and electronica. More dates in different territories will be added soon.

To celebrate this year’s edition of our favorite holiday, Nils contributed a track to the very first Piano Day compilation, which is out via LEITER today. Piano Day Vol.

Nils’ new double album Old Friends New Friends is out now via his own imprint LEITER.

Within the last months, Nils found the time to browse through his archives, and started to select his favorite piano tracks of the past years. Old Friends New Friends is a collection of works that, for the most part, never found their way on one of his records. Clearly, these are much more than outtakes, something Nils has no trouble explaining. “Often tracks that don’t make it onto an album are the ones with the most boldness and bravery.” As for how he feels letting the music loose into the world now, Nils simply chuckles.

Today, Nils announces a new double album out early December. Old Friends New Friends gathers together 23 solo piano tracks recorded between 2009 and 2021, almost all hitherto unreleased but, for one reason or another, omitted from previous projects. The album offers “an anatomy of all my ways of thinking musically and playing,” Nils says. Ahead of the release, he shares the lead single All Numbers End today.

Old Friends New Friends is out digitally as well as on 2LP and 2CD from December 3. For the US, the physical editions are set for release on December 17.
